Mastercard

A two year project to establish new photography guidelines and rebuild the image library for Mastercard was done in partnership with Pentagram as part of the development of a new brand mark and visual identity system by Michael Beirut and Luke Hayman’s teams.

We commissioned photography from Bryan Derballa, Ike Edeani and Maria Spann for the Image Library that fit the brand attributes and photography guidelines we developed for Mastercard.

To aid in maintaining a cohesive look and feel in the creation, acquisition and use of images, we created a set of Image Guidelines to work within the larger Brand Identity Guidelines developed by Andrea Trabucco-Campos from Luke Hayman’s team at Pentagram.

After auditing the existing image library, which contained over 10,000 images, we identified subject areas that could be sourced via stock and those that would be best served by original photography. After completing an edit of the library to eliminate photos that no longer fit the newly established guidelines, we identified new and improved sources of stock photography and rebuilt the library from the ground up.
